Gurnee may want to change its village slogan after police found themselves rounding up stray llamas and ponies this week. With the week not yet over, there's still time to catch a wandering alpaca or two.

Yes, indeedy, the circus wasn't in town, but the rodeo apparently was. Over the weekend, motorists noticed three llamas leisurely taking in the sights along Delany Road near St. Paul Avenue (www.suburbanchicagonews.com/newssun/news/615092,5_1_WA23_LLAMAS_S1.article) in the village.
Then on Tuesday, a pair of ponies were found munching grass along Delany, near Grove Avenue.

Gurnee used to be known as the "Rural Community of the Future," but that went out the window when they added Gurnee Mills and the big box stores that followed. How about "Rodeo Town"? Much better than what some of those Park City folks want to call the village after that junkyard vote.

Regardless, the vagabond llamas and ponies aren't even from the village, but from a ranchette along North Barberry Lane which is in unincorporated Warren Township. It's a slice of the township the village hasn't gobbled up --- yet.

Which may be one way to end the strays from leaving the ranch, although The Hound wants to know: How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm, after they've seen Gurnee? Yahoo!
