A Laddie MacBeth?

Like Shakespeare's Lady MacBeth, perhaps former Bolingbrook police office Drew Peterson, a suspect in in his wife's disappearance and in an ex-wife's death, "doth protest too much."

At first the suspect avoided the media and now he's had two appearances on the "Today" show, will be featured in an upcoming People magazine feature and now gives regular press conferences. Oh, by the way, he's also declaring his innocence, a lot, everytime he talks to the media.

It's a wonder what high-priced attorneys can accomplish. Perhaps Craig Stebic, considered a "person of interest" in the disappearance of his wife, Lisa Ruttenberg Stebic, a 1987 Libertyville High School graduate, could take pointers from the turnabout and obvious attempts to turn the media tide. Where's Amy Jacobson when you really need her?

And exactly where are Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic? Both mothers vanished leaving their kids with their husbands. Both husbands believe the same thing happened to their wives: They ran away with paramours.

To that, we protest too much.
