The Hound is always intrigued by the numerous ways people try to part hard-working folks from their hard-earned cash. The most-recent case is that of Reuben Collier, the erstwhile insurance agent/broker in Waukegan who police say wrote around 100 bogus policies.
Collier, a Zion resident who also wanted to open a limo service at this insurance office on Sunset Avenue in Waukegan, has been charged for allegedly taking premiums from customers who paid for non-existent policies.
Police have opened a tip hot line if others have been victims. The number is (847) 360-9002.
Among carriers which Collier may have acted as a broker or sales agent include Northpoint, (800) 910-1104; American Safety, (800) 388-3647; Pekin (309) 346-1161; Hartford, (860) 547-5000; Western Heritage, (800) 873-9442; and Founders, (847) 768-0040.
Collier, currently free on a $50,000 bond, a policy ensuring he shows up in court for future dates with the judicial system. And that is a premium policy.
I have used the services provided by the Colliers on several occasions...license plates & notary. I found them to be very professional and helpful, friendly people. Especially Ruben's mother. I did however wonder how they could afford the big stretch limo and the high end rental cars. I thought...WOW...business must be booming on the insurance end of the business. I read all the plaques on the wall of insurance providers offering coverage via LCLS/Collier Insurance. What a great show they have put on. I wonder if they will be brought up on charges for taking advantage of Spanish people, as it appears that a majority of those scammed were Spanish business'. They are in BIG BIG trouble. I wonder what all the bling will bring at auction?
THE HOUND SEZ: It don' t mean a thing, if you ain't got that bling! Wonder what a stretch Hummer will bring at auction?
