What is it with Lake County drivers who keep on hitting buildings? Is there something in the water? In two weeks drivers have smacked seriously into buildings. Perhaps dozens have hit buildings and caused no damage. Who knows?

The latest example of a motorist having a hard time staying within the stripes in parking lots was Friday when an 83-year-old hit the NorStates Bank in Gurnee. That was the fourth instance in two weeks. That doesn't include the carom shot Thursday night in Highwood when a Metra train struck a SUV, which hit a line of parked cars, sending one of them into the bar area of Froggy's eatery on Green Bay Road near Highwood Avenue.

Previous car vs. building mishaps recently have included a garage in Winthrop Harbor, the Wadsworth Post Office and the Sunset House Restaurant in Waukegan. It's not like these buildings just jumped up in front of these drivers. The bank, restaurant and post office have been there for quite a while.

If these drivers want to play bumper cars, let them head to Six Flags Great America this summer. They're not likely to get hurt behind the wheel of a bumper car.
