Bush Republicans

As you curl up and listen to President Bush's last State of the Union Address, see if Republican congressmen are sporting "I’m a Bush Republican” buttons, especially Rep. Mark Kirk of Highland Park.

Americans United for Change, probably a Democratic front group, delivered limited edition “I’m a Bush Republican” buttons to all of the Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate with the sly message: “Your votes helped build his legacy; you should show your support for him by proudly declaring that you’re a Bush Republican.”

It's a challenge to see if they're willing to put their lapels where there votes have been, especially in an election year, to see if they want to be linked with the president.

Indeed, an Americans United for Change spokeswoman noted, " It would be a shame to let this event pass without a show of solidarity among those who have stood by him and enabled his legacy to be established on so many issues."

She goes on to tell the Republicans: "Without your steadfast support of President Bush’s domestic, foreign and economic policies, there is no doubt America would not be in the position it is in today. Please wear this button on Monday evening to show your constituents that you support President Bush, his policies and how proud you are of your contribution to his legacy."

Is this meanspirited or just plain American political hardball?

Don't forget to watch!

This is just another way that the democrats can whine about not being in charge. If they were in charge we would be taxed more and even more hated around the world.

THE HOUND SEZ: Dale, you can't get anymore hated around the world than we already are. But then, the rest of the world hasn't liked us much since 1946, except, that is, all the people who want to come live here rather than their native lands. If the Democrats were in charge, they would't be taxing us more. They'd be earning a "peace dividend" by withdrawing troops from Iraq.

So what is the verdict? Did anyone wear a button? I think it is fun to see the Republicans in denial of just how bad their fearless leader led them. The worst Democrat in the country (take your pick) would be an enormous improvement over where we are right now. Even McCain would be better but only by a hair. Vote for change. Republican's are finished for at least a decade!

THE HOUND SAYS: Like fish in the pond, nobody took the bait. They saw the invite as it was, a ploy to continue to mock the president's eight-years of accomplishments. Just the facts could do that.

WHILE ELECTING A PRESIDENT IS OF THE UPMOST IMPORTANCE THE AMERICAN PUBLIC MUST TAKE THE BLAME FOR JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT IS BROKEN.WE IGNORE A HOUSE AND SENATE THAT IS FULL OF SELF SERVING,SELFISH AND CORRUPT INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE LITTLE INTEREST IN SOLVING ANYTHING THAT REALLY MATTERS. UNTIL THE PUBLIC WAKES UP AND STARTS HOLDING THESE DO NOTHINGS RESPONSIBLE NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE. I AM SICK OF HEARING ABOUT LOBBY INTERESTS. EVERYBODY IN AMERICA IS A LOBBIST OF SORTS. IF YOU ARE AN EMPLOYEE OF A OIL OR DRUG COMPANY YOU ARE IN EFFECT A LOBBIST FOR YOUR OWN SELF INTEREST EITHER OUT OF IGNORANCE OR FEAR.POLLS ARE DESTRUCTIVE IN NATURE. THE MEDIA ATTEMPTS TO SWAY THEIR VIEWS ON THE PUBLIC INSTEAD OF JUST REPORTING THE FACTS. THE AMOUNT OF MONEY AND TIME SPENT ON ELECTIONS IS SHAMEFULL.WHILE I DO NOT PERDICT GLOOM AND DOOM I DO BELIEVE THIS NATION COULD EASILY DESTROY ITSELF, WE HAVE BECOME SO POLARIZED. VALUES ARE CERTAINLY ON THE DOWNWARD SPRIAL, PRISION POPULATION IS ON THE UPSWING, OUR COURT SYSTEM NEEDS REVAMPING. GLOBAL WARMING IS IGNORED,WALL STREET NEEDS A COURSE IN ETHICS. IN SPITE OF ALL OF THE HUPLA DRUG TRAFFIC IS NOT UNDER CONTROL AND OUR ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS ARE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE AND NEITHER PARTY IS GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE OUR LEGISLATIVE BODY COMPRISED OF A CROSS SECTION OF THE POPULATION IE RACE, OCCUPATIONAL GROUPS AND THE LIKE RATHER THAN A BUNCH OF EXCESS LAWYERS WHO DO NOTHING BUT FIGHT FOR PRESS AND MEDIA REVIEWS.WE REALLY DO HAVE A BUNCH OF CARPET BAGGERS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ALL OF US BECAUSE WE LACK THE COURAGE DO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS YEARS ELECTION PROCESS SAYS IT ALL AND WE HAVE A LONG TIME TO GO. IT IS TRULY SICKING AND BOTH PARTIES ARE EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE.

THE HOUND SEZ: Geez, Hank, apparently you got up on the wrong side of the bed. This certainly is a long rant, but you forget one thing: More people are interested in reading about Britney Spears' latest check-in at the puzzle palace than who might be checking in at the White House come November.

Just kidding.

When it comes down to it, nobody is responsible but us. You can blame lobbyists, lawyers, big oil, big pharma, both parties, but the American people have the attention span of a five-year-old and we're content to govern by crisis at nearly every level of government. And then we complain about the cost and taxes. Feb. 5 is election day. While some are predicting record turnouts, it probably won't reach 50 percent of the electorate. Which actually is a lot better than the normal 25 percent for a primary.

I suggest you vote Election Day. It'll make you feel better.
