Supposedly, The Hound will wake up this morning and face below-zero temperatures and life-threatening windchills during the day and again on Sunday. If the weatherfolks are right, and they've been at a loss for words of late, this will be nothing like The Hound faced as a young pup in the 1980s. It was really cold back then. Really.
In the 1980s, several records were broken, including the coldest days of -20 degrees actual and -60 windchill. So don't tell The Hound about the cold. Those are temperatures when water pipes break, when cars don't start, when bumsicles show up at emergency rooms and when you wonder why you live in this climate. But, in truth, we survived.
Our mother made us travel in pairs in the buddy system while driving around just in case gas-line freeze happened and you had to march or die to a gas station and grab some Heat for the gas tank. Does anybody even use Heat anymore? Supposedly, gasoline now contains similar additives in our "temperate" climate.
The Hound knows some goofs who will be ice fishing over the weekend or jogging or going outdoors just to see if they can take the windchills. If they're dressed accordingly, they should be able to.
As for The Hound, he's staying in the kennel with the TV on hopefully watching the Popsicle Bowl in Green Bay between the lowly Packers and the New York Giants. And he'll be tossing a few logs on the fire. Stay warm.
