The Republican presidential campaign is turning into a free-for-all, and not the kind that Ted Nugent sang about. Let's see, three candidates have won three states. Could this lead to a brokered convention and a Bush waiting to be planted?
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike "Huckleberry Hound" Huckabee took the Iowa caucus; Arizona Sen. John McCain took the New Hampshire primary; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney took his birth state of Michigan. That means South Carolina and Nevada are next. South Carolina holds a primary; Nevada a caucus. Both are on Saturday.
According to the latest Zogby poll, McCain is the leader in the South Carolina Republican primary race with 29 percent support. Huckabee is a strong second with 23 percent andt Romney is a distant third with 13 percent. Democrats hold their primary in South Carolina on Jan. 26.
Romney, however, is coming off a handy victory in Tuesday’s Michigan primary, defeating McCain, who had hoped to repeat his 2000 win in that state and continue the momentum generated from his New Hampshire victory.
If all Republican candidates battle across the primary season and end at the GOP convention with none having a majority, who should Republicans turn to? The Hound suggests George H.W. Bush. He's tan, he's rested, he's ready! Here's a man with world-class leadership skills. How can Republicans not resist bringing him back?
Wouldn't that be a hoot?
It may be wistful thinking, but there are more Bushes waiting in the wings, like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush , although after the current Bush's poll ratings, Americans may be tired of the family.
