In the wake of the rampage at Northern Illinois University a week ago today, there have been calls on both sides of the gun debate to either restrict firearms or expand them with a concealed carry law in the Land of Lincoln. The Hound is siding with the concealed carry aficionadoes.
In truth, The Hound goes further when it comes to concealed carry.
Second Amendment defenders and assorted vigilantes believe allowing legally licensed students and teachers to carry handguns on university campuses is the way to go. They argue that if someone had been armed in NIU's Cole Lecture Hall there wouldn't have been five students shot on Valentine's Day because someone who was carrying his or her weapon to class would have fired back at Stephen Phillip Kazmierczak and wasted him. As they say in sniper school: "One shot, one kill." Smoke-check time.
The Hound, however, maintains if we're going to allow university students and professors to be armed on campus, sixth-graders, too, along with middle school teachers, should be allowed to carry. Imagine how many school yard fights could be settled. Not by survival of the smartest or fittest, but survival of the best shot. This is a foundation of our nation. After all, Alexander Hamilton died following a duel with Alexander Burr. An excellent educational example for civics class, eh?
Some may object to teaching junior high boys and girls how to break down a Colt .45 or 9mm Beretta, but that is what learning is all about, wouldn't you agree? In downstate Illinois, most 11 year olds have handled guns. If they have them they should be allowed to carry them to class. In the farm country surrounding DeKalb County, home of NIU, there's plenty of long rifle use.
Schools should no longer be "gun-free zones." This is just plain common sense. NIU students were left to the mercy of a crazed gunman. Do you want your junior high student to be next? Illinois is among the states with some of the strongest gun laws in the nation. That protected no one in that DeKalb lecture hall. Think about it

I support the rights of law abiding citizens to carry a firearm.
I vote and will vote for any politician, all other things being equal, who supports my rights under the 2nd amendment.

Any more you have to carry to live ! I am getting a taser, atleast I will not kill them, but it sure will knock them on their butt !They have small ones in color now for ladies, works for me !
