While America is going through the winnowing process to select a new president, Zogby International has conducted it's annual "Presidential Greatness" survey. From what The Hound can tell, the trio left in the race to their parties' nomination have a long road to travel. For starters, the man they'll be replacing is No. 9 of the top dozen. President Bush is just above Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon, who round out the bottom feeders. And Dubya is a war president. Go figure.
Of the living presidents, Hillary Clinton's husband comfortably leads Bush the Elder, Jimmy Carter and Bush the Younger.
Here's the top five in the Zogby poll, which queried 1,026 Americans: 1) FDR 2) JFK 3) Reagan 4) Give 'Em Hell Harry 5) Ike. Bill Clinton is No. 6. Go figure.
Missing from the top dozen were Franklin Pierce, Millard Fillmore, Calvin Coolidge and Warren G. Harding. How could those polled overlooked this quartet of greatness?
Perhaps the Lake Bluff Grade School District could have used this poll when naming their newest school. Instead of naming it for, say President Reagan, they decided to go with the clever name of Lake Bluff Elementary School. In Lake Bluff it doesn't get any better than this. Seems like they owe more to Reagan than just a passing glance.
But then they could have named the new facility Lake Forest North Elementary School, because without Lake Forest what would Lake Bluff really be? The Hound believes it would be just a big Knollwood.
