What's with the people of Wisconsin who live along Lake Michigan and treat it like a garbage dump? Right now nobody's blaming the cheeseheads, but a bunch of garbage washed up along the lake's western shore, in the Holland, Mich., and Manistee, Mich., areas. But, some of the garbage carried names and addresses from Wisconsin, according to an Associated Press account.
Beaches were closed and three truckloads of garbage, including prescription drug bottles, hypodermic needles and household rubbish were hauled away to a real landfill, not a liquid one. This surely frosts The Hound. Hey, we drink this stuff!
Besides junk, Wisconsinites have been known to dump their sewage into Lake Michigan every time it rains. How about they fix their sewage systems? Then, they can concentrate on what to do with their garbage.
The Coast Guard is investigating the dumping of the hundreds of pounds of garbage. Let's hope they find out who's responsible.
Are you serious? I am a lifelong IL resident and I guess I should remind you that Waukegan's lakefront is the worst on Lake Michigan. Asbestos, shuttered manufacturing plants, pollution, blight. You want to talk about sewage overflows? Go south a few miles to the SWALCO treatment plant that has dumped millions of overflow gallons into the lake over the years. You sound like a complete hypocrite (again).
THE HOUND SEZ: Well, The Hound may be a hypocrite (not), but The Hound knows there is no SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) treatment plant on the Lake Michigan shoreline. SWALCO does not treat sewage, you maroon. You obviously have a case of too much blight. The North Shore Sanitary District, the second-largest sanitary district in the state, treats sewage for residents in communities along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Regardless, JC misses the point. We know there is asbestos at Illinois Beach but public officials ignore it. Pollution is well known, but Waukegan city officials have decided to ignore federal Superfund money in a vain attempt to transform the city's lakefront into a recreational playground when gasoline for boats is nearly double that for cars and trucks. The dumping of sewage into Lake Michigan by the NSSD was caused last year by a ComEd power outage. The district says it has fixed that problem. Illinois, at least fesses up to it's errors, unlike our neighbors to the north. Regardless of what we have here or do, we certainly don't continue to dump raw sewage into Lake Michigan, if we can avoid it. And, when we do, it's not millions. Milwaukee alone is estimated to have dumped billions of sewage into the Big Lake in just the past year. One final thought: Waukegan's harbor is not the worst on Lake Michigan.
It really is nothing new when the News Sun can't get their facts straight as usual. They blame the Garbage on Wisconsin but neglect to say they come up here and pollute and cause garbage themselves. They blame Cheeseheads for their problems yet can't seem to correct their own! They say that cheeseheads dump sewage in Lake Michigan yet they come up here and dump themselves, and boy are they full of it too! Waukegan wants money but doesn't want the industry to help who have been here for years and pay taxes. The Government has said they can clean up the Harbor but Waukegan says nay! Do I hear a hint of Chicago here? Next maybe the Mayor wants to dig up the Waukegan airport too and make that a park in the middle of the night!
The newshound here seems to spout off and not tell it like it is. Remember a few years ago he said Lake county doesn't have homeless people but yet the census showed over 35,000 of them and still growing! Pads can't keep up! Cops in the county getting arrested and convicted of Child Molesting,theft rape,abuse of powers,and corruption while on duty. Political persons in power after they serve their term in office then go serve their term in prison! I could go on but I think the readers get the real point here.

Here's the facts: Milwaukee does dump sewage into Lake Michigan when it rains, in one count more than a billion gallons. And, nobody does anything about it, not the Wisconsin DNR, not the federal EPA. The Hound agrees, somewhat, with your assessment of the Waukegan Harbor situation. As for there being 35,000 homeless folks in Lake County, well, that is just your imagination working overtime. Hmm, and The Hound has never heard Illinoisans called "Cottage Cheeseheads." However, it is perferable to FIBS.

I not only live in Wisconsin but I also live close to the lakefront. Don't sterotype all people that live in Wisconsin as slobs. Not only do I NOT throw my garbage in the lake, I don't appreciate being called a slob just because I live here. While I am sure there are slobs that do live here, as there are everywhere, depending on your definition of a "slob", not all of us are.
Before accusations are thrown out there about the people that live here, maybe information as to how the garbage ended up in the lake would be a good thing to have. If there is garbage that has someones name and address on it, contact them, go there. Could be they have no idea how it got there. Ever think of that? I was born and raised in Illinois and you want to talk about a place where there are alot of slobs, more like pigs, but not ALL people that live in Illinois are like that. You can't even compare the two states. If Wisconsin is so bad and we are all slobs, then why is it that the new subdivisions that are being built are being sold to people in Illinois wanting to get out? I am not talking just about the less expensive subdivisons, but the much more expensive ones ($799,000 to $1.3M). This subdivion was a block from me. Seems to me that with the items you describe as being in the garbage, such as the syringes and empty medicine bottles, could be it came from a hospital, and probably unknowingly. Maybe things like this should be found out before the accusations fly and the name calling starts. Are there things about Wisconsin that could be made better? Sure there are. Are there things that the government in Wisconsin are doing and not admitting? Probably. However, to make everyone that lives here out to be slobs is way out of line. I am going to assume then News Hound, that you have no relatives that live in Wisconsin or friends that live here, nor is there any other reason that you ever come to Wisconsin, because that would mean that you were related to some of these slobs or friends with some of these slobs. That then would make you a hypocrite.

You complain about all the subdivisions being built (obviously in Carol Beach, Pleasant Prairie or Bristol) catering to Illinoisans who want to escape. Yet, you NL, escaped. You also probably have since become a Packer fan and are crying over bratty Brett Favre's behavior. You're logic, NL, too is lacking, much like a flibbertigibbet. The Hound has relatives in Wisconsin (who doesn't), knows people in Wisconsin and journeys often to Wisconsin (yum, steak brats). For all The Hound knows, his Cheesehead cousins are slobs, which is why The Hound has little contact with them. But, remember this, NL: Illinois green makes Wisconsin green. Just ask the chambers of commerce in the Wisconsin Dells and Lake Geneva.
