Oooh, that smell

For a while there, Antioch really was in the toilet and not just village finances. At least it smelled that way.

Sewage sludge spilled off a truck over the weekend along Main Street (Route 83) and surely raised a stink among village residents. More so than the last Village Board meeting.

The village moved about 16 truckloads through town on Saturday, getting rid of 80 tons of sewage sludge destined for some farmer's field. Who knew Antioch residents could produce that much effluent?

And, how would you like to be living next to that farmer's field after 80 tons of the stuff is dumped? Not The Hound, that's for certain. Remember that the next time you flush away.

One more thing. We also now know that Antioch's um, stuff, indeed, does stink.

To the fine people of Antioch, please do not put any blame on the wastewater operators for this recent odor. They didn't generate it, they TREATED it. For some unknown reason, people think that once it's flushed it doesn't stink anymore NOT! I've been in the wastewater industry for close to 30 years and personally am sick and tired of having operators blamed for essentially doing their job. We know going into this business that the only time the press notices us, it is typically for something negative.
The next something of this nature happens, just think of the conditions of streams and environment. Where would we be without these opertors?

THE HOUND SAYS: It's all about you, isn't it Oly? Why would Antioch residents think the stink came from you wastewater operators? Perhaps you've had your fair share of stinky mishaps at the plant in the past? Quit whining about "the only time the press notices us" is for "something negative". That's the only time the media covers any story --- when something bad happens. If the sewage plant is running fine, that's not news. That's doing a good job for which you get paid. Sorry to break it to you, but readers, listeners and viewers don't care about "good news".

Hound, Its not about me at all. I don't even live in Illinois anymore. There's no whining on this keyboard. Seems to me that readers do enjoy "good news." Lemmmmme ask you this. When police and fire/rescue (also public servants) arrest bad guys and rescue people from burning buildings, are they just doing their jobs for which they get paid? Nuff Said.

THE HOUND SEZ: If you don't live in Illinois any more, why are you barking? And, in fact, when cops and firefighters arrest folks and rescue people, they are doing a job and would be the first to tell you so. If you weren't being paid, would you go into a burning building?
