Now that Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran has kick-started the area debate on illegal immigration with his broadside at "sanctuary city" Chicago the other day and his figures that one in five jail inmates is an illegal alien, it's time for problem solving. The Hound favors the Spanish solution: Pay immigrants to leave.
The federal government is bailing out failing financial institutions, the feds can write a check to send illegals home --- if in fact we really don't want them. After all, one of the major jobs of the federal government is protecting the nation's borders, which appear to be as sturdy as a sieve.
Spain's unemployment currently is running nearly 11 percent on the Iberian peninsula. That jobless rate is the highest in the euro-driven European Union. So, Spain's government has decided to pay the tens of thousands of non-EU people --- mainly North Africans, Turks, Slavs --- in the country to go back to where they came from.
Those that leave get a lump-sum payment of 40 percent of unemployment money once they renounce their residency permits and the rest once they get home. They also have to agree not to go back to Spain for three years, although after the three years they can recover their work and residency permits.
Sounds like a plan to The Hound. What say you, presidential candidates?
First off they are paying people in Spain who have PAPERS....which must indicate some form of LEGAL status or they wouldn't have to forfit them before leaving....wait 3 years with the chance of regaining them again. We are not talking about LEGAL immigrants here.....we are talking about ILLEGAL ALIENS. They ARE NOT the same thing.
Secondly.....why should you reward criminal activity with a pay off? Whether it be amnesty, or a pay check to leave? Gonna PAY me to not be a criminal? You have to pay x number of dollars a year to not speed while driving? Otherwise....well.....why bother obeying the law. Gonna pay drug dealers not to deal drugs, rapists not to rape, robbers not to rob? I don't think so. You might pay to REWARD GOOD behavior, but not to reward bad behavior......like if they give amnesty to the illegals, they refund all the money to the legal immigrants....past and present who paid their dues and went about things the right way. For every person they have in jail for identity fraud they are released,(coz afterall....it's JUST a number or name) all criminals with children get let out, (because we don't want to seperate the family), anyone in jail for drug issues all get set free if they were busted with less than 500 lbs. of pot, or they were dealing for a "better life" for their family (since that's the limit drug dealers are let go at, at the border, because it's legally too expensive to fight for that little amount....and hey everybody wants a "better life".). No more insurance for driving a car and no need to wait in those endless lines for drivers licenses...(coz hey, alot of people can't afford the rising prices and as long as you can start the car press your foot to go and keep the car between the lines you can drive! Coz we all need cars to get to work and do our living errands.) Lets see....all citizens get their money back for all the extra taxes they have had to pay for all the extra cost to handle the illegal aliens and their children.....from school to any other cost incured because our government wouldn't enforce the law. Business get paid to use E-verify....far more than the benefit of hiring illegals to get the employers to hire CITIZENS.
Now that's fair isn't it? Hows that for comprehensive!
THE HOUND SAYS: Feel a little passionate about this issue, eh KW? Of course the Spanish have papers. The entire European Union has papers. They're organized and homogenized. Certainly, there are illegal aliens in Spain who won't be taking the buyouts. Then let's see what they do. They'll probably emigrate to France.
