Digitally deranged

The Hound feels like Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day". Those digital television warnings are driving The Hound batty. They just keep airing and airing and airing.

It wasn't bad enough we had to suffer most of last year hearing during every commercial break that analog TV was going digital on Feb. 17. Or crawling along the bottom of the set. Now we have to continue to listen to these national Energizer Bunny alarms through June 12. Besides, who in this era of cable and satellite dishes doesn't have digital TVs?

OK, so the Nielsen Co. estimates that more than 5.8 million Americans, or 5.1 percent of all homes, weren't ready for the Feb. 17 switch to digital. But then Nielsen has also told us "The Bachelor" is one of the top-rated programs. The government apparently believed them because the Obama administration asked for the deferral, despite the fact the nation's 356 commercial TV stations were ready for the change.

These analog diehards certainly had enough time to get ready, and thanks to the government, they could have gotten $40 coupons to help pay for the digital conversion boxes. Supposedly, the feds ran out of the coupons, so they're issuing more coupons, at a cost to U.S. taxpayers, to help defray the cost of the conversion boxes.

What a country! First, they take away analog TVs, then they pay you to buy a converter box made by foreign workers! It doesn't get any better than this. And The Hound is crazy?
