Dog leg to the right

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

Every news network went live Friday so we could all watch a horn dog apologize to us for cheating on his wife with women, some which included porn stars. Should The Hound care? Nope, but Tiger Woods' sponsors sure do.

No mistake, the world's top golfer didn't do his mea culpa for his fans, the PGA or his wife. He did it to protect a withering franchise. And, like Toyota, his motoring company is floundering. Tiger didn't stray too far from his script that he was sorry, soooooo sorry. Well, who isn't when they get caught?

His public apology should have been done a few days after he crashed his Cadillac Escalade right after Thanksgiving just outside his Orlando-area mansion. Who's this guy's handlers? Especially considering all his girlfriends came forward days after the run-in with wife Elin, most of us knew he had cheated on his wife.

At least Tiger didn't cry crododile tears like most of these celebrities do after they err. He gets an eagle from The Hound for retaining the last bit of dignity he has --- on or off the course.

I have no sympathy for a guy who is more interested in salvaging the gravy train, and compounding it by using his mom as a prop in this attempt. I agree that he should've said something as quickly as possible. However, he should have simply said that "Hey, I screwed up big time and it's something I have to work out with my wife. Not my agent, not my sponsors and certainly not with the media." Everything that came out since Thanksgiving would've come out anyway. These things can't be kept hidden for very long; especially considering that his cheating was frequent and known throughout the Tour. It was his trying to hide or cover up the fact that there was something wrong which drove the huge feeding frenzy. Would that kind of a statement I noted have halted the frenzy? No, but the media would have been placed more on the defensive in handling the story, and he would be considered less of a weasel than how he is viewed now.

THE HOUND SAYS: Well, Hermie, it seems Gatorade agrees with you. They've dropped the Tiger as a spokesperson just the other day. It can only get worse for the golfer.

As Rhett said to Scarlett (after Frank Kennedy's death):

"Your ethics are considerably mixed up...You are in the exact position of a thief who's been caught red handed and isn't sorry he stole but is terribly, terribly sorry he's going to hell."

THE HOUND SAYS: Good, one, Irene. The Hound had forgotten Margaret Mitchell was way before her time.
