Find a Job at the Library

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

I was in the Bolingbrook library this week. And I'm always amazed at how many people utilize the Internet on the lower level of the library. When I first saw the number of people, I thought it was a class.

Computer usage at the library is up 22 percent over this time last year, said Tony Lucarelli, public relations specialist for Fountaindale Public Library.

"We're finding that job applications are done online, and if people don't have computers at home they come here," he said "We've been seeing all of our statistics go up across the board, with computers being the most," he added.

It's disheartening that there's still so many people in our country without home Internet access, which is almost unbelievable in a time when some much information is exchanged online. But it's great that people can access the web at the local library.

The Bolingbrook Public Library currently has 35 computers, and the new library, slated for a first phase completion in 2010, is budgeted to have just over 65 new computers, including eight new computers in the new teen zone area.

So if you need to begin a job search, you can definitely find Internet access at the Fountaindale Public Library. All I suggest is that you get there early.

A Mother's Day Garden

This week I was interviewing several Bolingbrook mothers about how they'd like to spend their Mother's Day. One particular mother said she had recently discovered the simple and more important things in life and would just like to tell her mother "thank you." That got me to thinking about my own mother.

So this Mother's Day, my sisters and I have opted to do something more meaningful for our mother. On Mother's Day we will spend the afternoon planting flowers in her front yard, followed by an outdoor picnic. So each time my mother comes home she will be reminded of us when she sees her new flowerbed.

Now I can't take the credit for this wonderful idea. This brainchild sprung from my oldest sister. As I carried out my shopping this weekend at Meijer, Ace Hardware and several other stores, everywhere I looked I saw flowers. And it reminded me of just what the Bolingbrook mother had said: "it is the simple things that really do matter." As I'm sure my mother will attest to this weekend, when she sees her daughters take to her front yard to spread flowers in her honor.
