There’s an obvious reason why the Bulls didn’t bounce back from their traditional miserable, slow start this season: The December schedule was extremely difficult.
In past years, after failing miserably on the Circus Trip, the Bulls would thrive in December with a scheduled loaded with Bobcats and Hornets and Knicks and Bucks, etc.
This year, the luck of the draw gave them the Lakers and Spurs and Suns and Mavs, etc.
Hence, the slow recovery from the slow start, which triggered Scott Skiles’ departure.
The current 3-1 record under the new coach is a function of the team beating three of the four worst teams in the NBA – the Knicks, Bucks and Hornets – while losing to the only good team (Orlando) they faced and not a reflection of Boylan being a better coach than Skiles.
Until GM Paxson figures out a way to trade some of the useless, over-rated players (Ben Wallace, Captain Kirk, etc.) and get a low-post scorer and a quality point guard in return, this team will continue to beat the bad teams, lose to the good teams, and earn a No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
That is what is known as taking a huge step backward.
