Now that North Chicago High’s boys basketball team has set a school record for points in a game with 114 on Saturday night (114-71 over Round Lake), what can Hawks coach Gerald “King” Coleman’s squad do for an encore?
The all-time county scoring record of 117 points was within reach against Round Lake, but a half-dozen buckets were erased by traveling calls, costing any chance at carving the team’s name into the county book.
Mundelein’s record of 117 points has stood for more than a decade. It was set during the fun-and-gun days when Kyle Kessel was the point guard and the team hit the 100-point mark three times that year.
Incidentally, the North Chicago community still refuses to come out in big numbers to support the greatest show going in prep basketball these days. That is sad, bordering on pathetic. If the community can’t rally around a 14-2 basketball team that is wildly entertaining, what CAN it rally around?
And, let the record show that the Hawks got to 114 on Saturday without a single dunk and without running a single set play on offense.
That said, don’t be shocked if Grayslake Central isn’t the best IHSA Class 3A team in the county by the end of the season.
Sorry “King.”
What the "King" can do is to work with his school to get his fans under control. "Taunting" a high school player into submission is not something to be proud of, however the lack of intervention by anyone wearing "Hawk" red is shameful. Granted, (as usual) the RL admin failed to stay the entire game, but once again isn't the home team responsible for crowd control? Speaking of crowd control, where was the security/police/military when the RL team (including its stat girls) was accosted as it tried to get on its bus to go home? I guess maybe it takes someone to get killed before anyone will do anything. The "King" needs to re-evaluate his court because who wants to go to a place where you may not escape alive (literally).
I agree with the comments above 100%. Why would you want to come to a place where the crowd or people are out of control. This is a shame because the team plays extremely hard!! The team can and will when without the taunting fromthe fans.
The AD, the Coach, the security staff all need to step up and make a difference at the games.
A.D. Jim H., Head Coach, Gerald Colemen, and Director of Security, Johnny Johnson SR., needs to address these concern; but oh yeah Johnny Johnson, Sophmore Assistant Coach Lawrence Wade, and Park Commissioner, Morris Wade were some of the taunters. Thanks A Lot for being such wonderful role models. A concerned Community Resident.
from one concerned Resident to the next, if you were at the game on Saturday night at North Chicago High School, why did you not confront the taunters your self? You named names and titles? but neglected to include yours, the people you named you named incorrecly? it was only one taunter in the group, and if you were at the game? did you really see what was going on, the player in question was started the taunting by yelling into the stands, and when it came back to him, he could not stand it? i.e. "if you cant take it dont dish it".
let's start with the man in the mirror? if you want to discuss the issue lets not do it in the locker room, step up be a man and go to the source (taunter).was this your first warhawk game? "were you there to see the game or see the hair cut design"
the people you mentioned have done a lot of good things in the community and in the school! What have you given to the community of North Chicago, or the School. you mention names that were not involved in the exchange.
Dear concerned Community Resident, until you talk to the "taunter" face to face, You should keep your comments in the "barber shop"
You used "the Locker Room" to say what you should say to the individuals.
