According to reports, Round Lake senior starter Jerome Brown sat out Tuesday’s game against Grayslake North – a 63-54 loss – and star senior guard Vernon Randolph sat out the entire second half.
Reportedly, Randolph got T’d up by an official at the end of the first half Tuesday. For whatever reason, Panther coach Jeremy Fischer sat him the entire second half.
Brown has now sat out two consecutive games, and he’s reportedly not injured.
This comes in the wake of the school’s varsity cheerleading program pretty much collapsing when just about half the squad turned in uniforms during Christmas break.
Sad.
Sad? I agree. However, maybe the finger should be pointed in one direction, and that direction would be at the leadership in the building (specifically the Athletic Department). When the public thought that it was the coach to blame for missing the All-Conference football meeting in the fall; I say how can the coach go to a meeting which he hasn't been informed of? When you say, "For whatever reason, Panther coach Jeremy Fischer sat him the entire second half", maybe this is the only discipline an athlete will receive because others want to win at ANY cost? Wasn't this the same athlete referred to in a previous "Locker Room" entry? I wonder, do you know which RL "leader" left that game early and thus wasn't there to help handle the problem? What about those consecutive wrestling meets at RL which had no referees? Coach's fault? I don't think so. Was anybody at the freshman football game last fall when no officials showed up? Who has the responsibility to obtain and then verify that there are refs for a game? Dig deeper Locker Room, and the truth shall set you (and the good reputation of the RL coaching staff) free.
I know Coach Fischer and the young man in question and I wouldn't question Fischer at all. Discipline is up to the coach and if you he felt he needed to sit him out a game, two games, or remove him from the team then thats his decision. Stop second guessing coaches and let them handle the team. What happens with in a team should stay there, so if Jerome messes up then to bad for him.
