Z-B hoops games ... move them?

How’s that saying go? If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Well, somebody needs to do so some serious planning really quickly regarding two upcoming games involving Zion-Benton High’s undefeated boys basketball team.

On Saturday, Jan. 26, the Zee-Bees are scheduled to play at Lake Forest Academy, a small, private school that plays a national schedule when it comes to the sport of basketball.

The LFA gym can hold approximately 150 people. Zion-Benton’s fan base is over 1,000.

On Wednesday, Feb., 20, the Bees are likely going to play at North Chicago in the North Suburban Conference Championship Game. The NC gym can’t hold more than 2,000 tops, and there are probably 8,000 people in the Zion/Waukegan/North Chicago area who want to see that game.

Plus, that’s supposed to be the night when former North Chicago High football star Michael Turner is going to be on hand to have his Warhawk jersey retired.

Where will all the people who want to be there, sit?

An inquiring mind wants to know.

I'm writing in response to the 2nd half of the question about the seating capacity of the North Chicago gym. First, there is still a lot of basketball to be played during the 2nd half of the season, so we can't count our chickens before they are hatched! Being in the coaching ranks, that rates as a big time no-no. But, assuming that does happen and since the Sectional has been taken away from the dog pound, why not play it right there in that great old shed on Jackson Street! I know that would require some careful planning, but thought another idea could be thrown at this, that all the game proceeds would go towards the United Way of Lake County since that organization provides many different and useful services throughout the county. Just a thought, an idea that could be pretty good for basketball in Lake County.

All i know is im going to get to that game atleast an hour early. There is no way im not geting a seat for that one. Anyone know of any talks of change? A whole lot of people want to see this game as it has been hyped up.

yea, to be honest why not play both games at the dogpound? that is the mecca of high school basketball and those are two of the biggest games all season
