4) All of the above! You can't let a child run a team.....no matter how talented he may be. I really hope his father sits him down, talk to him, and let him know he's going nowhere in life with an attitude like that. People will hate you! On the other hand....did the school system make a mistake and hire the wrong coach. This coach has a sub .500 record. Interestingly enough with a team as talented as Waukegan's.....guess what the winning percentage is? I hope cooler heads prevail....Richmond needs to sit the remainder of this year. Show he can respect authority and become an impact player next year...however coach, this is not third grade! The team's success comes individuals! That includes you too! We want to win, great teams win through their great players! Jereme, Coach....you two have 100,000+ people backing you u in the basketball city. Use this as a wakeup call, and give us what we deserve and want!
I think waukegan basketball needs to re hire, either Brian Colbert or Al Rogers. I have nothing against Coach Ashlaw but we need to win games and with Jereme we can. He is the best in the state. Ashlaw isnt showing that. We had a chance to get to state with this star. And now he is off the team and problably is going to transfer. But if we get a new coach who knows what will happen

This is a hot-headed sophomore who knows he's ranked as the number 1 sophomore player in the state. He's proved nothing, he's been handed everything and has never been told "no" . . . Justin was just as whiny and pouty on the floor when he was at Waukegan.
While I never liked the hire, and felt that Al Rogers did MORE than enough to earn the job. Ron Ashlaw has made the right call here and probably should have done it sooner. Rashaan, Naudgee and company can now prove to people (like they did last year) that winning a few games in the tournament is not out of reach.
Jeff, that's how you write a column by the way. That tap-dancing piece on the "sad situation" like most of your poorly-written material still needs an opinion on something.
I think a major part of Jereme's problems stems from his father and the direction he gives Jereme. It almost appears to me that he is "selling" Jereme's services to the highest bidder. Jereme can become a cancer to any program he enters if he and his father do not change their habits.
If the style of player doesn't match the style of play, how can the players maximize their potential. Players weren't shooters, they were slashers. Running that rainbow, pass around the perimeter didn't match the players. I think Coach Ashlaw is experiencing alot of what the teachers who don't stay in the district that long do: they come to Waukegan not completely knowing what Waukegan is, get here, fail to adapt, are miserable and leave. I hope he stays as he is linked to the new AD and new school board. Isn't the old adage "be careful what you wish for"
Are we forgetting the life education we are offering this athlete? He is 15 and needs to allow himnself to be coached. Be part of a team! Do not be so quick to blame the coach, players must execute what the coach wants. If this is not being done, well, you've seen the results. How do you control players on the floor playing their own game?
Why on earth would we want to bring back another prima donna (Colbert) or a no-good thief (Rogers)? I got a better idea: Jeremy, take Colbert and Rogers with you, to a school far away from here.
1st of all that was the worst coach waukegan had..He did not let them press, fastbreak, or trap basically they wasnt allowed to play..How can you have a losing record with one of the top players in the country..What it boils down to is he couldnt coach a good player, he didnt know what to do...Jeremy is a good kid who just got feed up with a terrible coach..getting rid of coach colbert was the start of the program going down....
I think EVERYBODY needs to get off of Jereme Richmond's "basketballs" and realize that there is more to this TEAM than Jereme Richmond. Watch out for Nickerson who WILL produce in this tournament for himself and the loss of Richmond. Also watch for Melvin and Carpenter to really shine because they dont want to see their season end early on the mistakes of a bonehead coach.
Unfortunately Coach Ashlaw utilizes his resources about as effectively as FEMA. He has an athletic, but undersized team, yet he eschews the press and other pressure defensive tactics that have borne fruit for Waukegan in the past. He has (well, he HAD) a definitive go to player in Richmond, yet at key turning points in games the team didn't seem well schooled in going to him. Given Ashlaw's failings, it's easy to understand Richmond's frustration, but impossible to condone the way he chose to express it. Players should not confront coaches in front of the team, or otherwise undermine their authority. I know he's young, but he needs to learn that's not how he's going to live up to his full potential. At the end of the day there's blame enough to go around, and maybe when everyone settles down someone will find a constructive way to mend fences and create an environment that fosters success going forward. I'd love to see Richmond back in a Waukegan uniform next year. I could care less where "Coach" Ashlaw is - - every school he coached at has seen its record get worse with him at the helm. I wonder why Waukegan thought it would turn out any differently with him at their school?
I just hope that no team takes Waukegan for granted. The players that WILL be in uniform for Wendsdays game will be prepared, battle tested, and ready. A new season begins when state tournaments start and Waukegan will be back where it belongs, on the top.
In my opinion, this would of never went down if Rogers were the Coach! It seems as though these boys don't care too much for Ashlaw. They don't respect him like they should. He's not Bulldog material. GET RID OF ASHLAW & THE AD...AND BRING BACK ROGERS AND ROLLY VASQUEZ.
My Opinion is this, Jereme wanted to get beat Oak PArk, New Trier, and or Loyola all great coached teams. After losing and proving Waukegan has more work ahead Jereme throws a fit and quits. Listin everyone coaches are thier to be a pain but to push you. Jereme maybe you had an easy season at your old small school that is so not important it is not going to be named. Waukegan has been better with you and rill survive without you. I got accepted to U of I and I hope I never see Jereme put on an Illini uniforn no matter how bad we are. Hardwork equals Success and maybe it is the first time Jereme has worked hard and he hates it. Well Jereme Coaches may say they want you but they will not want you untill you change your atitude. The only things I have seen wrong with waukegan is Ashlaw. Ashlaw is a okay coach bur hasn't learned from his mistakes. 1. Do not start Josh Smith he is no Big Man or Guard in fact have him quit along with Jereme. 2. Press 3. Slash. 4 With our lack of Big Men I do not see players like Reggie taking it to the hole against Centers In man to man defences. 6. When playing Zone you waste too much time offencivly like versus E-town. 7. Shot selection has been good but it can be way better
Thats it so Waukegans Solution fire Ashlaw and hire Tom Sheilds a proven state winner at however how much it cost.
Waukegan High School has a reputation of inheriting remarkable, talented athletes and pairing them up with lack-luster coaching. Teaching of the game has a Waukegan student-athlete never experienced. I understand that most high school coaches hold a position in the school district, and that high schools sacrifice knowledge for availability, but until the school focuses on coaching and development, the same things will continue to happen. Look no further than the turnover rate in the school's many sports. Waukegan can't keep coaches because they can't hire the right one. In today's society, high school sports are more than just extracurricular activities and a couple extra bucks in a teacher's pocket. A lot of these kids have the opportunity to earn valuable dollars in college scholarships which could lead to successful careers or a chance to play professionally. But they need to be taught that. It's tragic what's going on with Jereme, but he needs to be held accountable for his actions. And guaranteed, if he continues this behavior, in two years, Coach Weber simply will not take him. But shame on WHS. If all Waukegan expects is mediocrity, then that's all they'll get. They have never had the right coach in any sport, and at this rate, never will.
I keep hearing about how Brian Colbert was the best thing to happen to Wkgn Boys Basketball. He was handed an allstar team already groomed and trained. Did he even make it down state. He had several division 1 prospects, did any of them get to D1 with his help. NOOOOOOOOOO. Get off of his jock he had winners handed to him and yet he still didn't make it down state.

This kid has gone to 3 high schools in 2 years. I sure hope he doesn't end up at Zion next year, we don't need kids like that playing for the Bees.
Mr.Richmond would look very good in a Nrth Chicago Warhawk uniform."State Champs for the warhawks.." Etc- mike turner....
