After three days of IHSA Class 3A and Class 4A girls basketball action, here are some things we know that we didn’t know before.
A lot of the Chicago Public League teams are really, really bad.
North Chicago, which has never won a regional title in the sport, could win one tonight as it takes on Wauconda at Chicago Senn in the Class 3A regional finals.
.
Chicago Senn High School is very far away from North Chicago and Wauconda..
The Waukegan-Warren game tonight in Class 4A will be the game of the day.
If Warren’s guards take the night off, Waukegan will pull off the upset of the year.
If Warren’s guards are in top form, Waukegan has no chance.
If it wasn’t for bad luck, Round Lake would have no luck at all. The Panthers appear doomed to be taken out by state super-power Buffalo Grove tonight. Round Lake-Waukegan, Round Lake-Grant, Round Lake-Mundelein would have been a better matchup for the Panthers.
The only area team with a chance to go downstate is Warren.
What have we learned? That's easy. Take a look at the number of mediocre 3A teams that are winning regional championships versus the number of stud 4A teams that won't even get downstate. This new four-class system cheapens a state title for the lower classes and makes things extra difficult for the best 4A has to offer. Just take a look at how much easier it is to win a sectional in 3A versus the number of quality 4A teams that will be knocked out early next week. I understand that the IHSA wants to share the wealth, but seriously... What's the point of a state championship if you aren't really playing the best?
And, yes, the CPS has some really BAD teams! Some of these scores are embarrassing.
