Coming soon, The News-Sun is going to select its All-Lake County Boys Basketball Team for 2007-2008.
Here in The Locker Room, we're interested in finding out who YOU think should be on the five-man first team.
Remember, you need to pick 2 guards, 2 forwards and 1 center. Which means, you can't just pick the five best players in the area because this was a guard-rich area and you could easily have five guards on the first team.
Good luck.
1st Team All County
1)Ronald Steward
2)Brandon Paul
3)Lenzelle Smith
4)Kentral Wilson
5)Dylan Richter

I'm a big fan of the News Sun Locker Room. It gives us readers a chance to be writers but I wanted to wait until now to post comments about the high school boys basketball season as it ended in exciting fashion. The biggest congrats to Zion-Benton and North Chicago for taking your teams to another level. Next year will be exciting again for you guys. I can't wait to see it. With the new installment of 4 classes instead of 2 look for more Lake county teams to be making trips down state. Not that it's easier but let's just say it's more accessable.
As one basketball season ends another is beginning. The AAU basketball season is just underway and for many reasons AAU is now more important than high school ball. You must realize more college scouts get to see more preps play AAU than high school because of the traveling all around the nation and better talent that is on display. Since many coaches are recruiting more now this time of the year more scholarships are being offered. And more player profiles will be built. It's almost like you have to have AAU on your basketball resume to be recruited. There will be a local game Saturday at Joy of the Game center in Deerfield that will showcase some area preps. Any die hard fans like me can come witness some scouts drool over the talent and potential. Former Chicago Bull Dikey Simpkins is coaching the NLP 17 and under all star team with loads of talent such as Warrens Brandon Paul,Zions Lenzelle Smith,Waukegans Colin Nickerson. Simpkins is being a good role model by guiding some young men to the next level as getting a athletic full ride isn't easy. What do you know thats the team name Next Level Performance (NLP). Not a fact but I think NLP will play Joy of the Games (JG) 17 and under team who plays still Illinois-bound Jereme Richmond.
It's funny how Richmond will not be a all Lake County first team pick even though he's considered to be the BEST THERE IS. He did lead the county in points and rebounding. It will be interesting to see how the number 1 sophmore in the nation bounces back from this mess of a high school season and gets into AAU action where I guess he gets all the props and all the points. Which again I guess makes him out to be the best. Well guess again. Richmond probably wasn't the best player on his team as Rashan Melvin and Nickerson took the lead and load to a regional final which probaly wouldn't have happened if Richmond played. He was out of synk with the Waukegan program and is going to have to play a role in that system. Something he will not do with JG. Maybe something he's not willing to do for Waukegan. If so, no hard feelings he could transfer to a prep school out east like players of his caliber do. Look for the Bulldogs, with or without Richmond, to be leading the pack next year. Warren will be right back in the thick of things as their all star Paul is truly an all star. North Chicago and there run, gun, and fun offense to score 100 plus points in let's say every game. This year was the best.
