Wouldn't it be great to have TWO teams downstate?

Our area has never had two teams qualify for the IHSA state tournament in the same year. Heck, our area has trouble qualifying ONE team for the state finals each year. Will this be the year we double our fun?

Probably not.

Class 4A Round of 8 NIU Super-sectional

Zion-Benton 82, Elgin 50 -- Seems like every time Zion-Benton advances to the super-sectional on the big college floor, the game winds up as a slaughter. Why should things be different this year?

Well, there will be ONE difference. Instead of the Zee-Bees being the slaughteree, we're going to be the slaughterer, so to speak.

Truth be told, it's inconceivable to think the mighty Maroons of Elgin High can match up in any way with ZBTHS.

So far this year, Z-B has played 33 times and has yet to play a perfect game. And while in The Locker Room, we'd prefer perfection to occur in Peoria this coming weekend, the thinking is that it's going to happen tonight.

Class 3A Round of 8 Hoffman Estates Super-sectional

Chicago Marshall 79, North Chicago 57 -- The talk in The Locker Room after LAST YEAR'S state tourney was that Marshall would be the pick to win it all this year.

Nothing that has happened this season has changed that view.

There are at least five teams left in the Class 3A tourney that our Hawks definitely could/would beat.

Sadly, mighty Marshall isn't one of them.
