LL baseball ... this is it?

In The Locker Room, the TV is always on and that means sports-channel ESPN is always on.
Over the weekend, there were a ton of Little League baseball games on TV between teams of 12-year-olds representing different states.
Gotta tell you: I have seen travel baseball teams in our area that are way better than some of the state-championship teams that qualified to play in Williamsport. Yet, those kids are going to play in the "Little League World Series" and our teams are not.
What a shame.

There is a crucial difference, I believe, to the Little League teams playing in Williamsport and some of the travel teams in our area.... In LL the teams have strict border regulations, while the travel teams around here cherry pick from many communities. Those travel teams SHOULD be better with a wider range of players to choose. If it's a "shame" that our area's talent isn't getting displayed in Williamsport, then they should register with LL, pick teams within the parameters, and give it a try.

I watched the LL softball for a few minutes, and it was not very impressive compared to the level of play I've seen at top 12u tournaments, even though the age requirments are the same. Each year I have difficulty understanding why these girls get national TV coverage but the talented girls at ASA Nationals are not covered in any way, even though the level of play is much higher. It is frustrating also that casual viewers probably think these girls are the best in the nation (they're on TV, aren't they?) even though the teams I saw today just weren't that good. The pitcher I saw was throwing 50-51 mph, which is not at all impressive for a 12, and the fielding was not much better. Two runs scored in the three minutes I was watching. Guess when you have the clout of the Little League, you get on TV.
