While Stevenson, Antioch, Wauconda & Lake Zurich have pretty much dominated the North Suburban Conferennce in the sport of competitive cheerleading of late, three schools that might vault their way into the upper echlon this coming school year are Warren, Zion-Benton and Libertyville.
The guess here is that when the NSC holds its annual competition in January, that different teams are going to be walking off with the top honors.
Just a feeling.

You list two large varsity and one co-ed teams as schools that might vault their way into the upper echlon -- but you don't list any medium varsity teams to knock Antioch and Wauconda off their pedestals. What area team do you think has the capability to take the Sectional Title from Antioch? Robin Gwinn is as good as they get in coaching. She puts a routine on the mat that is hard to beat.
Don't want to get in a fight about this, but if I was going to pick a North Suburban Conference Prairie Division team to be the league's best, it would ALWAYS be Antioch.
That said, the Grant team definitely looked good last year and could be a program on the rise.
I would rank them as Antioch, Wauconda, Grant, Vernon Hills, Lakes & Round Lake.
When you venture outside the NSC, you have to think about Grayslake Central.
Thing is, kids change from year to year. I saw Warren make huge strides last year after being a trainwreck the year before. Personally, I luv the things Warren does throwiing fliers all over the gym.
The constant in all this is Antioch coach Robin Gwinn. Easily the best all-around.
No fight - Antioch is as good as it gets. Wauconda has a great program and were amazing last year as well. Grant and Round Lake are both large varsity teams. With Grant's coaches moving to Lakes - they are definately a team to watch. Vernon Hills is also a solid team. Why Grayslake Central?
Kids do change from year to year - you never know how many seniors a team graduates or which members will return to the team.
Competition season is a long way away --- should be an interesting year.
Has anyone seen Zion-Benton this year? They have come a far way from last year with their tumbling, stunts, and overall effectiveness. After the hardships they have encountered with recently having FOUR girls walk off the team, they have pulled it together to become so much stronger. Such obsticles must be put into consideration. For most teams the case would be this: after practicing since May of 2008 and losing a total of 8 girls (4 of them being a WEEK before their first competition) is a tremendous setback in the world of competitive cheerleading; but not for Zion-Benton as they quickly pulled together new stunt groups, a mount, and even new routine. THAT is what I would call true determination, talent, and most importantly--heart.
With Sectionals over --- any thoughts on area cheerleading now?
