This week in area prep football, the North Suburban Conference begins league play, which means the action should heat up on the pitch.
Alas, when the heat gets turned up, the crystal ball invariably turns foggy.
That is a way of explaining, in advance, why some (or perhaps all) of this week's pigskin picks are wrong.
Here they are, ranked Nos. 14-1 in order of how much confidence iThe Locker Room has n the winning team, in fact, winning.

Where is deshawn chambliss. All County quarterback sitting the bench are you kidding me. I thought that you always put your best players on the field of play. What is the coach thinking this isnt the water plant this is a kids career that we're talking about.
Jeff will u say something about the qb situation at n.c.c.h.s
Having watched the last two North Chicago High fb games, let's just say that the team's inability to produce points is one of the biggest disappointments of this prep season.
Someone said the other day that he was totally disappointed with the lack of offensive production by NC's Jimal Hill, who was a stud running back for the team last season. He didn't know that Jimal no longer is a running back, but is split out wide in the shotgun/spread offense installed by the interim coach.
Putting the QB under center and using the running of Cam Scott and Hill to set up the pass might have been an alternative to what we've got.
But, since this is what we have, let's just say that NC pretty much has to play a perfect game on offense to get the ball into the end zone. That is, they don't make enough big plays to overcome penalties that create 2nd-and-long situations.
Those of you who haven't seen NC play football ... they run the exact same offense as Waukegan, which is averaging more than 30 points per game. NC is averaging less than 10. Of course, Waukegan has Mar'Quezie Edmonds at quarterback, and that is the difference.
That said, there are probably more college-type players on the NC team than on some of the teams in the county who have won 3-4 games already. It's too bad those kids won't get a chance to experience playoff football, but it ain't gonna happen.
