Prep hoops: Wait til next year?

Well, if you're a Waukegan High basketball fan and you're looking forward to traveling to Zion-Benton next year to gain some revenge when the Bulldogs surely will be better than the Bees, you are out of luck.
This Waukegan/Zion boys basketball battle of titans was a one-and-done deal, and Waukegan will not be playing at Zion-Benton next winter?
Given how much excitement was generated in the two communiaties about the game, that is about as poor a decision as the one Steve Bartman made when a foul ball headed in his direction at Wrigley Field six years ago.

Nice prediction Bonato, who did you pick to win again? Time for Kryzewski to open his eyes, WHO GONNA STOP RSTEW???

Alls I got to say though is one word - AlleyOOp!

Jeff- what a terrible analogy comparing that decision to Steve Bartman's incident. Bartman's was instinct, and 99% of fans would have done the same thing. Big difference between instinct and reaction, and the planning that goes into schedule making. I'll give you a break though, since you posted this at 4am.

Go Bees!

That is too bad! I thought that game was great for Zion and Waukegan and having the match up annually makes perfect sense. What a great build up to the possible rematch in a sectional semi or final.

My only disappointment was that the little shoving match between Richmond and Yarborough was allowed to escalate the way that it did.

I have seen men taken out of that gym by police for wearing a hat. How did the big fella in the plaid jacket who wound up shoving Richmond at midcourt get to stay in the gym? He had nothing to do with the game...each team had coaches, each school had designated security, and each community had law enforcement officials to handle any issues. Watch the video he put his hands on Richmond's chest and pushed him back. I realize Richmond is a man-child, however, what this gentleman did amounts to assault. That was unfortunate.

Here's hoping we get to do it all over again in March. It was great fun.

On a different note, Banato, you are awesome! I am a Principal of a school in Kenosha. I get the Kenosha news everyday and while I appreciate the coverage they provide to the area high school sports teams, I wish we had a columnist like you in our county. You are a cheerleader for all the great things going on in Lake County sports and you even call people out when you see something you don't like. Keep doing what you are doing for the kids in Lake County.

Well said T-bone, except for:

"coverage they provide to the area high school sports teams". I think you meant coverage they provide "of". As a principal, please watch your grammar.

and I spelled Bonato wrong...I'll try to do better next time. I still wish we had him in Kenosha.

Take him... please.
