North Chicago is 2 players away

| | Comments (6) | TrackBacks (0)

Having watched our Warhawks get drubbed in back-to-back years in the Round of 8 super-sectional at the Sears Centre, it's obvious that two things are needed to take North Chicago's boys basketball team to the next level:
Two quality transfers.
One of the two has to be a 6-6 post player who can block shots and rebound.
The other has to be a Quon Conner-type, who played two years at NC but is now starring for Waukegan High.
Without two additions like that, NC is destined to go 23-7 next year and again get whacked at the Sears Centre.

Jeff,

The rumors mill is running fast in the halls of Zion Benton. People are saying that Lenzelle Smith might be looking to transfer to Waukegan next year. Maybe North Chicago can grab him instead.

Lenzelle has denied those rumors on multiple occasions. Think about it, does he actually have anything to gain from it. He already has a full-ride to Ohio St. ZB can still easily with the NSC next year with Paul and Vogrich gone. They should be the second best team in Lake County, next to Wauk.

The difference in the North Chicago Warhawks getting to the Sears Centre or not was home court. Playing in another gym the Warhawks could have easily gone dwn to either of their sectional opponents, Johnsburg or Grayslake Central. The Warhawks might be a couple of players from getting past the likes of North Lawndale, actually they were a call or two away from not winning the sectional. Grayslake Central was actually an injured player away from being 10 points better than the Warhawks on the Warhawks floor.

If you're going to give Grayslake Central their best player back even though he missed the year with an injury, then you also have to give North Chicago its best player back as he played the entire year in the starting lineup for Waukegan.

You play with what you have.

North Chicago's best player than is a starter for Waukegan? Hmmm how's that work?
Grayslake Central , or Johnsburg for that matter needed only a neutral court. Johnsburg and Grayslake Central would have been playing for the sectional title. No big deal, not complaining, I know it's the way it works and it's OK. You play with what you got in the gym you gotta play in ... I'm just speculating. I'm a fan of all of these teams, but the idea of NC being without a peer in 3A locally this season is just not accurate.
