Gotta tip the cap to those area high-school baseball programs that are playing ball this week in places where it is warm. That's a lot of candy bars to sell during the off-season and a lot of cars to wash, but getting games in is worth it.
Carmel High, for example, is off to a 5-0 start and crushing the opposition in sunny Arizona. This is the first year ever that the Corsairs have left the area for spring-break week. If Carmel had stayed home, they'd be in the gym practicing all week.
I don't think Carmel has to worry about selling candy bars and holding car washes to raise money for trips. Coach G is all the fundraising they need. He's got a great system set up there. If only all of us could receive such donations.
Libertyville is also in Arizona this week playing baseball. Not a bad way to spend your spring break!
Tip of our hat has to go to our area softball teams as well traveling during spring break.
Coach G is the man. Those kids, though, work pretty hard for the program as well.
Mundelein goes to southern Illinois every year. Their hoops teams go to San Diego over xmas break.
Me? I made it all the way south to Vernon Hills.
