This team probably should be atop the North Suburban Conference Lake Division standings. But, inexplicably, it went in the tank for two weeks in April, losing back-to-back two-game series to Lake Zurich & Stevenson, and thereby assuring also-ran status for the rest of the regular season.
That said, the team has the total package necessary to do some serious damage in the Class 4A playdowns. They can catch the ball, can play small ball, have some serious thumpers in the heart of the lineup, and have an emerging freshman pitcher who will keep the other team from scoring in bunches.
The key is to play smart ball. Don't know why the team kept brain-cramping in April, but it's playing the best ball in our area right now, and will be a real danger team in the playoffs.

Jeff,
Have you seen them play small ball? Zion has 3 or 4 of the fastest girls in the conference. How many stolen bases do they have or bunts? Not enough.
I agree with you this is a great team with great players, but they have to win the close games. lossing 5 games by one run, 3 of them in extra innings is what caused them the conference this year. They have to fix that trend.

Saw your note about LF QB Rees the other day. There shouldn't be anyone remotely close to him in the county or in the state this year. He will be a 3 year starter, has won, and put up huge numbers. hes had a flurry of colleges thru LF this spring with multiple offers anticipated.

Bonato must be on vacation. Bowen is in the news again at Grayslake and no blog.........
Not sure how good or bad Zion is they are never in the paper. Do they even have a team? I know boys baseball has a team see them in the paper all the time.
My friends daughter plays for Zion. She has hit 3 home runs in the past 6 or 7 games. This is just from last week. Not one note about the girls from Zion has been in the paper. This is for games they won also. What is up with that?
