Have Halloween outfits become too sexy

| | Comments (17) | TrackBacks (1)

If you've walked into a bar the weekend before Halloween, it probably looks like a Motley Crue video or a Victoria's Secret promotion. Thing is, most of these women are just getting into the Halloween spirit. Has it gone too far?

What do you think about most costume stores not having an age requirement for some of these costumes that include garter belts, nylons and high heels?

--Mike Mitchell

Is Halloween turning into one big lingerie party and how come Naperville parents haven't spoken up about it?

The Pussycat Dolls have been a pop music sensation over the last couple years, and I think they just decided to cash in. They’ ve decided to launch a lingerie collection (designed by Robin Antin)— and it looks like it’ s the kind of collection that mig... Read More

Personally I LOVE the sexy Halloween outfits, especially ones with high heels and thigh hi's. It is up to the PARENTS to police the purchases made by thier children for Halloween. No age limit needs to be put on the products, just parents making sure they are buying age appropriate outfits for thier kids.

I don't see any harm in it so long as the costumes are worn at bars or adult Halloween parties. Should children be wearing them? No, but I'm going to assume that most parents will be (should be)with their children while they are picking out a Halloween costume.

NEWS FLASH: Having solved all other problems, Naperville set to tackle the issue of adults having fun.

Won't someone PLEASE think of the Children!

Gone too far? Give me a break would ya?
You said it in your first 6 words... "If you've walked into a bar".

What does being in a bar, full of adults, have to do with putting age restrictions on "Sexy" Halloween costumes? All you Nannies need to find something better to worry about.

Sheesh!

It's not a problem for college kids, but parents who have high school kids, this could definitely be a problem. It's somethhing that needs to be worked on.

i Can't believe there is no age requirement at the stores.

Who likes really hot women in scandily clad clothing and heels, especially women who don't normally dress that way, raise your hand?

I do!

What' the matter with you people.

Lignerie is a good thing.

Personally, if a woman is comfortable in cute clothes there is nothing wrong with being in sexy clothign.

I love the attention in brings and it's my one night to be outside myself. I'm a good girl and it doesn't mean anything if I want to be sexy for one night. that's what the fun thing about halloween.

I have a different perspective on this. This may not be an issue for many of you, but it is extremely challenging to find an adult costume that is appropriate for family Halloween events. As a classroom mother I need a costume that I can wear to my twins' elementary school, to my youngest child's preschool, and to our sub-division celebration. Not an easy task when the available costumes are what most of you have described. I have to spend extensive time searching online for something that isn't see-through, low-cut, skintight, or could lead to my arrest.

I don't have a problem with adults wearing what they want when they are in the presence of other adults, but some alternatives would be good for the rest of us. I'm no prude, but I would appreciate more "family-friendly" costumes for those of us who will enjoy Halloween in the midst of children.

Mike,

I can't agree with you more regarding your article on Halloween. Women's costumes have moved out of the bedroom roll-playing fantasy activity into main stream party outfits. Maybe if I was 20 years younger and didn't have a 12 and 19 year old daughter I would find the outfits interesting. My 12 year old in 7th grade was very disappointed when I declined to purchase either one of two "Beautiful Pirate" costumes (a.k.a. Sexy Pirate in adult sizes) since it shows as much skin as a bathing suit. Do these costume makers really have to entice young children to dress up as little tramps to make a profit?

Hahahah... Oh Mike, and you accused me of being a prude.

It's obviously all a matter of perspective. If you think of Halloween as a children's holiday, or have daughters, you have a different perspective than someone who just wants to see women dressed in sexy outfits, because let's face it -- there are so few opportunities to see that in our society. As if!

I have two young girls (elementary school age)and the costumes available in their sizes are mostly trampy! What has happened to our sweet, fun holiday?! If adults want to dress up in these costumes then go ahead but don't make these available to our young kids. I can't figure out when Halloween became so sexy.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it. Halloween has become one of the biggest holidays of the year for kids and adults alike. The proliferation of adult costume parties only adds to the fun. And why not spice things up a but - it's all pretty harmless. Maybe peope are just a little too Puritanical out here in the conservative western suburbs if they find something as silly as this a reason to get worked up.

Puritanical? Nice word.

Who'd know that five-syllable words and lingerie would be in the same paragraph?

Too sexy for ADULTS? No.

For KIDS under 18? YES.

Um, yes.

i know my kid is going out on halloween with an outfit that she wants to wear, a teddy bear costume. shes not thinking of all the "sexual referances" that all the other costumes have, she just sees her freind dressed up as a pirate, not a sexy pirate its only the perverted minds who think to twist what there looking at and see an 8 year old and call her a tramp. i personally think if its not your kid, dont be their parent. they have parents of their own wether or not theyre doing a good job is not for you to say just worry about your own kids.

Interesting,

A Responsible Parent believes that parents shouldn't be concerned about sexy attire--even if it's available for children.

I'm told that in some stores there is risque clothing for younger ages. That means teenagers.

So it's a matter of availability. What if the bulk of the costumes for young teenaged girls were sexy costumes?

I think it spells danger.
