Plainfield offers what Naperville can't deliver - My Big Fat Mouth

Plainfield offers what Naperville can't deliver

| | Comments (7) | TrackBacks (0)

In some ways, it would be crazy to say it's worth the trek to nearby Plainfield for some Naperville residents.

But is it? Has anyone tried driving northbound toward the downtown area on a busy evening?

Sometimes it makes you want to turn the car around and head back south to Plainfield, a place with a promising and rejuvenated downtown area. Those not wanting to battle with crowds, can walk down Lockport Street to wine and dine.

Sure there's a few shopping centers on the southwestern portion of the city, but is it enough to spend a Friday afternoon?

It's somewhat true. The traffic along route 59 is terrible and I'd rather gouge my eyes out. Plainfield's downtown is somewhat small but it is worth an evening if someone is looking for a good restaurant or enjoy a cigar on a bench.

I'm not sure if it's even cheaper to spend money in Plainfield, though.

Where is Plainfield?
Is that in Kansas?

As someone who lived in both Naperville and Plainfield, Plainfield's downtown cannot even compare to Naperville's for restaurants and entertainment. Everything is right there, even natural beauty with the Riverwalk. The only thing I liked about living in Plainfield was their library. They've got an awesome library but, then again, Naperville's is the best in the country, so no reason to go to Plainfield for that, either.

I live in S. Naperville. I specifically go to Plainfield for all my shopping. The taxes are cheaper than shopping in North Naperville. As far as Naperville having the best library, I believe a book is a book and they are the only ones who enter this contest anyway.

Go to the one and only real downtown - that would be Chicago.

naperville is a chicago-style downtown wannabe. no contest here.

Dont forget that plainfield in its finite wisdom passed a 1% increase in sales tax to take effect soon.. forgot when but its coming.. Plus with gasoline prices as they are heading... might not be worth the trip...

Andy,

You are absolutely right. I just noticed on my recipt friday the tax rate is now 8%. I still shop down there though. The gas is cheaper. Just an example. Yesterday Gas City @Rt 59/95th $3.85 - Naperville. Shell @Rt 59/119th Plainfield $3.65 and while I'm down there I will do my shopping.
