A season sweep and now this: Mongo vs. ?

By Sean Fuchs

The Bears didn't have a lot of highlights this past season that didn't involve the sentence "I can't believe they kicked to Devin Hester." But the Bears were able to sweep their cheese-farming rivals to the north.

But all is not lost for the Packers, because Sammy Walker is ready to defend Green Bay's honor in a tough-man fight against former Bears great Steve "Mongo" McMichael.

In something called the "Rockford Rumble" on Feb. 23, the two former NFL players will duke it out to gain bragging rights for the Rockford area. My words don't really do it justice. Here is how the release says it.

Former Chicago defensive end Steve "Mongo" McMichael and former Green Bay defensive back Sammy Walker will be putting on a different set of pads and battling it out in the ultimate grudge match to claim Rockford as either "Bear Country" or "Packer Backers".

This is silly on so many levels. For one, it's defensive tackle vs. defensive back. Second, McMichael played for 13 seasons and was a Super Bowl Champion; Walker played eight games in 1993, so these guys aren't even close in approximate status. Third, it's a tough man contest, which gives mixed martial arts, pro wrestling and boxing a bad name. C'mon Rockford.
