Naperville Central’s double-overtime win against West Aurora on Friday in Naperville started and ended with Central junior Drew Crawford.
That’s how teammate Harrison Daniels put it after the Redhawks’ 64-59 DuPage Valley Conference win over the previously unbeaten Blackhawks (14-3, 7-1).
The Redhawks (14-6, 6-2) have won six straight DVC games now and are only one game back of the lead along with Wheaton North (14-5, 6-2).
But could the Redhawks biggest game of the year really have boiled down to Crawford – who’s already nailed three buzzer-beaters this year – again?
“I would say for the most part,’ Yes,’” Daniels said. “You’d like to say, ‘No,’ but...”
The answer’s still yes.
Crawford took a Danny Ondik inbound pass nearly coast-to-coast and finished it with a floater inside the paint to tie the game at 51, forcing a second overtime.
Then, with five seconds to play and the Redhawks leading 62-59, Crawford sealed the win by blocking senior center Tyler Thompson’s 3-point attempt.
