Benet swimmer Dave Vandendorpe learned on Monday that he has a partially torn ligament in his right ankle, according to Redwings coach Mike Rigali.
The good news for Vandendorpe is that he returned to practice after having to sit out the Fox Valley Invite.
"He's back in the water," Rigali told the Sun on Wednesday night.
The bad news is that Vandendorpe is still on crutches and has yet to attempt diving off a starting block since he injured his ankle falling down stairs at school last week. He said at the Fox Valley Invite that he didn't think his injury was that big of a deal and that he would be available for the conference meet this weekend.
Rigali said Wednesday his team captain may not be able to compete on Saturday in the conference meet at Fenwick. The injury could take as long as six weeks to fully heal, so Vandendorpe will not return to 100 percent this season.
"It's swollen, but he's been able to swim," Rigali said. "He's not able to put much pressure on it."
