BREAKING: Three-Peat 2.0 for Neuqua's Brian Alden

By Sean Fuchs

EVANSTON -- Neuqua Valley senior Brian Alden won the 100-yard freestyle at the IHSA boys swimming and diving championships, giving him three state titles in a row. Earlier this afternoon, Alden claimed a three-peat in the 50 freestyle.

Both three-peats put Alden in rare territory. He is now the second swimmer in IHSA boys history to win those events three consecutive years.

His winning time was 45.10 seconds. North's Jackson Hill was second at 45.82, helping the Huskies pull into fourth place after seven events.

Since Alden didn't swim faster than he did on Friday, the Heat Index decided to skip a post race interview. Instead the Heat Index assumes that he would like to say something like, "I am not that happy with my performance, but the team is in good shape. That's all I care about."

The win, coupled with Kevin Overholt's fourth-place result in the 100 free and Chris Murray's second place in diving, gives the Wildcats an 90-71 lead over defending champion New Trier in the hunt for the team state title.
