Naperville Central is the highest-ranked local team in both girls and boys water polo, according to the presseason media polls on illpolo.com.
The Central girls team had its two-year reign as sectional champion put to an end last year when Neuqua Valley beat the Redhawks and went to state. The Wildcats are No. 7 in the preseason poll and Waubonsie Valley is No. 17. Naperville North received votes, but was not in the top-20.
On the boys side, Central is No. 4 in the preseason poll. The four-time sectional champs didn't make the state tournament last season, but are ranked ahead of a team that did: state runner-up Naperville North. The Huskies are No. 7 in the poll with Waubonsie Valley at No. 8 and Neuqua Valley at No. 10.
Fenwick, which has won nine of the 12 state titles between boys and girls, is ranked No. 1 in both polls.
Do these rankings seem legit? Or do you think Central has a lot of people voting in that poll?
