Neuqua Valley diver Chris Murray advanced to the finals on Friday afternoon at the IHSA boys swimming and diving state championships.
Murray is currently in fourth place after posting a 303.80 score in the prelims today at Evanston Twp. High School. Byron senior Philip Devine is in first place with a score of 310.15.
Murray, the top seed entering the prelims, is one of four divers that scored higher than 300. The top 12 divers advanced to the finals, which begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday. A win in diving from Murray is critical for Neuqua's team state title hopes.
"Chris is still in range," Murray's father Terry said via email.
The other three Naperville are diving qualifiers -- Gus Appenbrink of Neuqua Valley, Mike Greco of Naperville Central and Eric Heyson of Naperville North failed to advance.
Greco finished in 17th with a score of 157.40, Appenbrink was 25th at 149.50 and Heyson was 46th with a 131.25.
