There was some speculation that Waubonsie Valley junior Rachel Bostick would lean toward accepting a basketball scholarship offer for college. But in the end, basketball never stood a chance.
Bostick gave Illinois State a verbal commitment for soccer earlier this month.
"I really wanted to play soccer (in college) because that's the game I've loved ever since I was little," Bostick said after tonight's 2-2 tie at Lincoln-Way Central. "There were a variety of basketball offers, but I did have to turn them down. I love soccer. Life wouldn't be the same without it."
When Bostick arrives in college she'll be reunited with ISU assistant coach Shauna Daugherty, who was on the Waubonsie coaching staff when Bostick was a freshman. But Bostick said that wasn't much of a factor in choosing the Redbirds.
Instead, Bostick went with ISU because of her desire to remain close to home, ISU's teaching program and because she'll be playing a position she likes - forward.
There are probably a few disappointed college basketball coaches out there, but you can't fault Bostick for following her heart.
