If you were at the boys swimming state finals on Feb. 22, you might be in Sports Illustrated.
In the March 3 edition of SI, the first photo in the "Leading Off" section is a really cool shot that shows a heat of the 100-yard freestyle prelims. It shows a stuffed-to-the-gills pool at Evanston Township High School as the swimmers launch off the blocks.
The state champion Neuqua Valley Wildcats are clearly on the right side of the photo on the pool deck, and the Neuqua faithful are on the opposite side of the pool, above in the bleachers.
I had this issue sitting at home and didn't even know about the photo until Sun staff writer Paul LaTour told me about it. As Paul said, the photo really gives you a good idea how intense the Evanston pool can be as a venue for the state finals. There is no way this crowd is fire marshall legal.
Now, I know it is really lame to talk about a photo and not provide a link. I tried, folks, but I couldn't find it on SI.com and a Google search of photographer Andrew Hancock brought me all sorts of his other work, but not this photo.
If you can find the photo online, drop the link in the comments box.
