Central is seventh in new rankings

Naperville Central at No. 7 is the only Naperville-area team ranked in the Chicago Tribune boys volleyball Top 10 published on Sunday.

The Redhawks (12-1) will play Naperville North in DVC play on Tuesday, 10 days after ending a 14-game losing streak to the Huskies with their three-game win at the Tiger Classic.

The Chicago Sun-Times rankings will be updated on Monday. Central was seventh in last week's poll and the Huskies were ninth.

Update: Central is sixth in the new Sun-Times rankings and North is eighth.

Benet and Neuqua Valley are both connected to the Trib's Top 10 through No. 8 St. Francis.

The Wildcats beat St. Francis in pool play on Saturday at the Glenbard East Springfest.

St. Francis will visit the Redwings on Wednesday night.

Service Errors

Neuqua coach Erich Mendoza told From the Back Row that the Wildcats' struggles with their serve against Glenbard East was worse than the resulting first loss of the season.

Mendoza was more upset with his team's performance from the service line than with the loss. Neuqua Valley (8-1) won the second game despite making eight service errors in its final 11 service attempts, then lost the deciding third game with a service error on match point.

"Mentally, those kill you," Mendoza said. "There are times in a match when you have to get the ball in play. You don't give yourself an opportunity to win when you serve the ball into the net."
