Neuqua cracks top 10; Central is out

A championship at the Streamwood tournament on Saturday, which included a second win over St. Francis, got Neuqua Valley into the Chicago Sun-Times boys volleyball Top 10 rankings for the first time this season.

The Wildcats, which have lost only to No. 4 Glenbard East, are now the highest ranked team in the Naperville area. Naperville North, which beat Wheaton North in three games on Monday to improve to 9-5, is 10th.

Naperville Central was second two weeks ago and sixth last week. The Redhawks are out of the Top 10 this week.

Central (13-2) looked bad in its two-game loss to North on April 8, but no worse than North looked in its loss to Glenbard East on Thursday. So I'm not sure about North being in the Top 10 over Central.

But, whatever. It certainly makes more sense than the Chicago Tribune rankings that have St. Francis, which lost to both Neuqua (twice) and to Benet last week, still ranked ninth. North is 10th. Central is not ranked.

Possible State Quarterfinal

From the Back Row broke down the potential state quarterfinal matchups after the IHSA held its running of the peas on Monday.

The Naperville North Sectional, which FTBR said is one of the two "most loaded fields in this year's tournament," was matched with the Willowbrook Sectional. That means Neuqua, North or Central could see Glenbard East or No. 6 Hinsdale Central in the state quarterfinals.
