If Lincoln-Way East's 25-6 win over West Aurora on Saturday weighed on Neuqua Valley, it certainly didn't show Wednesday.

In one of the best games in Neuqua history, the Wildcats defeated Lincoln-Way East 2-1 in eight innings to crack a sectional final.

"Coach (Robin) Renner tries to scare us before the game: 'Oh, this, this, this... they're men, they're men,'" Neuqua junior Ian Krol said. "But, you know, we always come out, we always prove what we can do. So, we took it to them."

Senior Brian McNabb drove home both Neuqua runs, including Jordan Williamson in the bottom of the eighth inning. Krol pitched a complete game and won his seventh game of the season.

"We knew it would be tough," McNabb said. "They beat West Aurora (25-6). We lost to West Aurora."

The Wildcats (30-6) will play the winner of Benet and Lockport for the championship Saturday at Neuqua.

Brad Nolan worked as a Sun sports staff writer for nearly five years before taking over as sports editor in April 2005. Since then, The Sun has continued to be honored as one of the top sports sections in the nation.

Chris Sosa formerly served as The Sun's assistant city editor before taking the assistant sports editor position in January 2007. He also writes a weekly sports column for The Sun.

D.J. Wanberg has served in several different capacities during his long-standing career with The Sun. Most recently, he worked as a sports staff writer and sports night editor until being named associate sports editor in 2006.
