Jake Naumann's ready to go. The Naperville North junior's so ready to go, he could probably, um, go right now against Neuqua Valley in the regional championship.
But he, like everyone else, will have to wait until 10 a.m. Saturday -- to go.
"I don't know if they'll let me, but I can," said Naumann, following a 9-2 win over Naperville Central on Thursday. "They'll probably tell me I have more important games later on in my career. But I feel good."
Naumann pitched 6 2/3 innings against the Redhawks to pick up his 10th win of the season. He said he'd be up for relief work against the top-seeded Wildcats on Saturday.
"The best thing about having Jake is you're gonna get a lot of innings out of him," North coach Carl Hunckler said. "He's a kid that comes back -- very resilient. Needs three days rest only. A lot of times we push it to four, but every coach wants to have that type of elite pitcher."
Naumann's 18-4 over the last two seasons, but not even that type of production could coax Hunckler into throwing Naumann on less than 48 hours rest. He'll start somebody else, but he's not saying who just yet.
