Baseball belongs in the spring, and moving it to the fall, as other media outlets have suggested, would cripple the sport. Are there any plans to tweak the schedule? Anthony Holman, an IHSA assistant executive director who oversees baseball, explains in an e-mail how that process could work:
"This has been some kind of spring that's for sure. There have been a few by-law amendment proposals to change the start and end date of the baseball and softball seasons. They are were defeated either in the legislative commission or in a vote of the membership. However I am pretty sure that we will see a similar proposal that would have the baseball/softball season starting around April 1st and going through the 3rd or 4th week of June. My guess is that there may be a little more consideration given seeing what we have experienced this year. That would have to come as a proposal from a member school principal however and go through our legislative process in October.
"We currently have a fall season for baseball, as well as a summer season...not many people know that, but our Championship season (the season in which the IHSA conducts a State Series Tournament) is the spring. I don't foresee our Championship season moving to the fall, although we are seeing more and more teams and conferences competing during the fall season.
