The semifinals of the Neuqua Valley Sectional went by the numbers on Friday night in the boys and girls matches, as Naperville Central and Neuqua Valley both advanced to both championships.
In both cases, the championship match pits No. 1 seed Central and against No. 2 seed Neuqua. In both cases, the final four featured the four top seeds. So, seeding committee take a bow.
On the girls side, Kathleen Patterson scored seven goals and the Wildcats beat third-seeded Waubonsie Valley 11-7.
Kara Wilson scored six goals -- making her career total 310 -- to help her top-seeded Redhawks to a 16-5 win over fourth-seed Hinsdale Central.
Neuqua, which has won three sectional championships, will get its chance to defend its sectional title from last year. The Redhawks will be shooting for their third title in four years.
Mark Menis and Max Saltzman combined for nine scores for Central, which took a 10-2 lead before holding off Waubonsie 13-7.
Neuqua's John Mikuzis scored nine goals and the Wildcats closed out defending sectional champion Naperville North, which was last year's state runner-up.
Central will be trying to win its fifth overall sectional title and fourth in five years. Neuqua has not won a sectional.
