Work with someone long enough, like Eric Johnson and Alex Evans have at Tamarack Golf Club in Naperville, and you're bound to have crazy stories. Johnson, the general manager, and Evans, who heads up golf operations at the course, both look back on this mishap from January 2006 and laugh.
"(Evans) was the assistant superintendent in maintenance at the time," Johnson recalled. "It was a cold winter day and we are open 12 months a year so I was in the pro shop. And I'm looking out the window and Alex is preparing the course for golf on a cold January day.
"He's driving the cart in reverse because he forgot to do something; he's driving the maintenance covered cart. And I'm looking and thinking, 'Oh man, he's going pretty fast and looking out of control.' And he ended up in the flowerbed, and he didn't think anybody saw him. He gets out the cart, picks up the rear end (of the cart) -- it's not going anywhere (because it's stuck)."
"I killed the bush," Evans said.
"He just trashed the bush," Johnson continued. "And there's me in the pro shop, I practically wet my pants I was laughing so hard. That was classic."
