Will Chris Brown start for the Texans? - The Heat Index

Will Chris Brown start for the Texans?

Everyone has a different depth chart for the Houston Texans running back position.

NFL.com doesn't even list Chris Brown, the Naperville North alumnus who joined the team on March 13. Neither does the Texans team Web site. That's OK, we'll give everyone until the start of training camp to update their lists.

Want the real scoop?

Visit the Houston Chronicle. It has former Packers running back Ahman Green listed first, followed by Brown and rookie third-round draft pick Steve Slaton. Green's the incumbent at the position, but rushed only 70 times last year as the pegged feature back and ended the season on the injured reserve list.

Taking it one step further, Chronicle columnist Richard Justice said:

"They'll need Matt Schaub and Ahman Green to stay healthy and productive, and they'll need young players such as (Naperville Central alumnus) Owen Daniels, Fred Bennett and Amobi Okoye to keep getting better."

Read the complete column, which includes Brown as part of the Texans' new veteran talent base.

The bottom line: Brown's in town for a reason, and we don't mean in town as in Naperville. He's in town to host his football camp Friday and Saturday at Calvary Church in Naperville; true, but he's in Houston to boost a depleted backfield and take over if necessary.
