The Neuqua Valley (Road) Warriors?

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

It's unlikely Neuqua's boys basketball team will be changing its nickname, but looking at the Wildcats' 2008-09 schedule they might consider a new moniker.

The Wildcats have only six home games scheduled this season, five of which involve Upstate Eight Conference foes. So that leaves one nonconference home date for Todd Sutton's crew.

Neuqua hits the road for three tournaments, including the season-opening event at York. The Wildcats also travel to Elgin for a Christmas tournament and hit Honenegah's Martin Luther King tournament in January.

"The MLK tourney is great competition and really helps us prepare for the post season," Sutton said in an e-mail this week. "Although home games are prefered, 22 road games will build great mental toughness."

Among the many quirks in their schedule, the Wildcats don't have a home date until Dec. 5. Then, after a home game against Streamwood on Dec. 13, they don't return to their gym for a game until Jan. 16 against Waubonsie Valley.

Of the four other schools covered by The Sun, none have fewer than nine home dates (Naperville Central). Naperville North and Benet each have 10, while Waubonsie has 12 aided by its home Christmas tournament.
