Joe Henricksen of the City/Suburban Hoops Report provides an interesting breakdown of Neuqua Valley hoops here on his Sun-Times-affiliated blog. The Wildcats are coming off Tuesday's 68-65 victory over Bolingbrook and Wisconsin recruit Diamond Taylor. Henricksen writes:

"Looking at Neuqua Valley's schedule, (it) could very well ride into the MLK Tournament in Rockford in the middle of January unbeaten. Sure, both St. Charles North and East Aurora could give them a scare in upcoming Upstate Eight games, and the Wildcats will be tested at the Elgin Holiday Tournament later this month, but this team is for real. After the MLK Tournament the Wildcats will see South Elgin and Geneva, a pair of surprising teams, and Downers Grove South in late February."

Naperville Central has presented its Red/White Awards - given in honor of former team manager Tom Hoesch - to the following fall athletes who demonstrated character and hard work:

Emily Susin (girls cross country)
Emily McGee (girls volleyball)
Erin Lamb (girls swimming and diving)
Hannah Sakats (girls tennis)
Michelle Carroll (girls golf)
Kevin Murphy (boys cross country)
Mike Kraft (football)
Ryan Whittingham (boys golf)
Dave Mallett (boys soccer)

Neuqua Valley graduate Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton, a senior at Purdue, was named a Big Ten Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Wisdom-Hylton, a 6-2 forward, averaged 15.3 points and 9.0 rebounds as Purdue went 2-1 at the Waikiki Marriott Classic in Honolulu, including an overtime loss to No. 5/6 Stanford. Against the Cardinal, the senior netted 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out four assists, swatted a season-high four blocks and added one steal.

The following night against host Hawaii, Wisdom-Hylton went 10-of-11 from the field for 20 points with eight boards and a team-high and career-high six assists, also grabbing three steals and registering a pair of blocks. In her third game in as many days, the Naperville, Ill., native recorded her second double-double of the season, pouring in 11 points with 10 rebounds, also adding a pair of assists, a block and a steal in a win over Prairie View A&M.

The weekly honor is the second of Wisdom-Hylton's career and the second for the nationally ranked Boilermakers this season.
